The Creative Brief

The Beginning

Big Sky Yoga Retreats came to us for a custom web design and development build through our long standing partnership with PR firm Creative Quarterback. With a primary goal of improving overall user-experience as well as a desire for a mobile-first build that improved ease of scheduling retreats, the client was eager to overcome a number of challenges within the old site.

Starting with Strategy

Yeehaw & Namaste

Big Sky Yoga Retreats (BSY) is a yoga retreat center with a twist. BSY pairs yoga classes with horseback riding, providing its patrons with once in a lifetime cowgirl yoga relaxation. Their existing site pre-dated the expansion of the business. Neither responsive or mobile friendly, visitors were redirected to a third party site for payment processes and booking or scheduling variations of their many retreats was a complex process. Content and site structure was primed for a fresh build from the ground up to meet their audience of today – tech-savvy entrepreneurs and yoginis.

Mobile-First for Easy Scheduling

Information Architecture

Large & Small

Based in the Big Sky state of Montana, BSY collaborates with upwards of seven national and international retreat locations. BSY offers visitors resources they may need, from suggested reading, yoga products, and packing lists. Combined horse and team member bio’s, scholarship programs for a revolutionary retreat for cancer survivors and more, the initial challenge was discovering how to convey and map a large amount of unique content pieces.  Users would need to sign consent and safety waivers, search through various retreat types, availability, and of course, make payment during the booking process.

Solution: Complex Interaction Becomes Intuitive and Simple

Complexity Meets Simplicity

Several weeks of design with collaboration from the client and the development team went into the final project you see today. Customized functionality for the FAQ panels allowed our development team to store an abundance of content throughout out the site by utilizing the same panel structure across multiple pages. The generation of Paypal buttons above and beyond the integration allowed for retreaters registration and payment without redirection. Paired with additional custom blog panels used for bios within the site, the Aero team was able to create a concise design with high levels of functionality.
